EXCERPT FROM PROPOSAL TEXT: Concept The New Castle County Courthouse Plaza Opportunity provides an opportunity to create a work of public art that visually and physically embodies the historical basis of the evolution of our contemporary legal code. The concept behind this work is to build a structure that is based on a set of concentric shells, with each shell containing quotations from historical epochs in legal history. The core of the work is an illuminated lantern that is not only very appealing but symbolizes the light of justice. Description Physically, the work is organized around a central glass lantern on a stone pedestal. Around this form a framework is created that supports layers of multicolored stainless steel geometry. Within these frameworks bands of text from the history of law is supported. The rings of concentric text progressively develop into the plaza inscribed into the seating surfaces of the planter boxes. |
