BROWER HATCHER

This structure represents a timeline of Welsh civilization from its ancient origins, through successive historical epochs to the present and implied future.  This historical timeline is initially represented on the ground plane with an earthen berm and stone circle.  As one approaches the tower, its base is reminiscent of a hill fort, then as one gets closer it looks more like a 12-14th century castle.

From the crenellated top of the castle, a tapered structural matrix emerges that supports artifacts representing developments in Welsh civilization.  These artifacts are embedded and layered within the matrix and include representations of the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Monasticism, the mines, the Industrial Revolution, steel mills, manufacturing, the contemporary Information Age, and the future.

These representations of history are fabricated of cast bronze, iron, steel and glass.  These suspended objects represent past historical periods, while digital LED lighting represents the contemporary Information Age and a laser beam projecting vertically through the structure into space references the future.

This icon of Welsh civilization is a testament to the legacy of a proud, creative and industrious people and would evoke the pride and “hiraeth” of the Welsh nation.
